Rogie Falls

Andy enjoying the view from the bridge above the falls, Jamilla isn't too keen as it wobbles quite a bit, as you cross.
The bridge from the path.

Looking down fom the bridge.

Rogie Falls

On the way home from Inverness today, we parked up just after Contin & walked through the forest to Rogie Falls. This pic from the main forest track looking SW, above the falls.
The main falls.

The fish ladder, away from the main falls to make the journey easier for the salmon heading upstream.

More death on the beach

A harbour porpoise, washed up yesterday morning.
Just over a metre in length. The damage has been done by birds eating the blubber -crows & gulls.

This shows the teeth. The white mark on the top of the snout is where birds have attacked the area around the blow-hole. Porpoise need to surface for air, like other cetaceans.
See http://www.whaledolphintrust.co.uk/ for more information.

Remains of a frog on the beach.

The "biscuit tin" above Firemore beach. It may yet be reprieved.............................

Out & about

The mouth of Loch Ewe from Firemore beach. The loch was a hive of naval activity during WW2 & there's moves afoot to create a museum.

Saturday walk

Andy & Jimjams enjoying a walk from Kerry Bay.

A walk on the wild side.

The harbour at Charlestown from the far side of the bay.
Scot's pine clad promontory.

Kerry falls just above Kerry Bay. We walked down to the fish station, then along deer tracks back to Charlestown & found another track back to the car. Despite the bad forecast, it was in fact a pleasant walk with a mix of sunshine & showers.

Laide beach walk

Curlew surveying the tideline at Laide, just after high tide which was only 3.7 today.
Beinne Ghobhliach (The horned mountain) above the Road of Destitution.

An Teallach from Laide beach.

Monday & it's over to Inverness again.

Loch na Crann, near Contin, where we walked on the way home.
Is it "Bye bye" Biscuit Tin?
Had a test drive in a Suzuki Jimny today. Liked it & will do further research. Enjoyed a walk in the woods near Contin on the way home. Been there before but found more paths & tracks this time. Also met a dog walker, driving a Jimny! He reckons they will go anywhere on any terrain, but he'd pranged his the week before!!! Mind, he was about 85.......................

Sunday trip to Inverness

Car hunting, -never a pleasurable pastime. Off we went to Inverness, following extensive research of the internet by Andy. The promise of open car dealers wasn't true, they now close on Sundays. Is this a sign of the recession, or just the language of second hand carsales?
Anyway, we had a mooch around, saw what was available & shopped 'til we dropped at Aldi & Lidl.

Saturday walk at Gruinard Bay

Saturday, we walked Penny at Gruinard Bay as we hoped to get to Inverness on Sunday to look at cars.............Having been "snowed in" for almost a week, perhaps it's time to invest in a 4X4, albeit a small one.

Visitors on Sunday

A rare view of Harris beyond the youth hostel, best viewed as a larger image (click on the image - back button to return).
Frozen Flowerdale waterfall.

Sally, Stevie & the boys met up with us on Sunday. They're spending the (Scottish) half term at Mellon Udrigle. Good to catch up with fellow, ex-sandgrounders.

Snow persists

An Groban rising above the snowy paths of Flowerdale.
Sledgers on the golf course.........don't tell the greensman!

Baosbheinn & Ben Alligan from the road above the golf course.

Winter continues

Jamilla & Nibs on the beach - snow, not sand!
Snow storm coming in from the Minch.

Cinema, Gairloch style. The "Screen Machine" mobile cinema, rolled in at 2am last Friday despite the atrocious conditions so we had the choice of "Madagascar" , "Quantum of Solace" or "The Changeling". Somehow, we managed to resist!
