Trip to Applecross

Today began with a thick mist enveloping everything- but a brightness above, which promised to burn it off before too long. We weren't disappointed and soon saw the mist retreat, our view return under a blue sky & with a clarity above expectations.
Great, as we had planned to journey to Applecross with Geraldine & Karen & to take lunch at The Applecross Inn.
Sunshine, blue skies, breathtaking views, mountains shedding the last of the cloud from their higher reaches, deep blue lochs & autumn colours in the trees. What a perfect day.
Stopped briefly at Shieldaig so Jamilla & Chilli could stretch their legs, then onwards around the peninnsular to Applecross. Lunch was delicious, thank you. The "Milton walk" (from local brochure) took us out from the village, up a hill & back round near the campsite. An interesting flock of birds turned out to be waxwings! a first sighting for us.
Homeward bound via the Bealach na Ba, (Pass of the cattle). WOW. Think Hardnott & Wrynose & multiply by 100 (for those of you familiar with the English Lake District). Fantastic views across the Minch to Skye & beyond, then the descent, hairpin bends, single track with passing places & Margot thinks that maybe it's not such a good idea to do this next year on the motorbikes. :(
What a wonderful day & this is on our doorstep. Saw lots of deer on the journey home, in fact you have to keep watch as some of them are on the roads & as it's still rutting season, there's some chasing going on.
Shouldn't have too much trouble sleeping tonight!!
